All About Elevators

At Straight Up Elevator Co, we proudly serve commercial and residential clients, offering expertise in various vertical transportation solutions. From hydraulic elevators and geared and gearless traction elevators with Machine Rooms to Machine Room-less (MRL) elevators and wheelchair lifts, we are well-versed in various elevator types and their control systems.

Types of Elevators

Residential

Wheel Chair Lifts

These devices are crafted to assist individuals with disabilities, offering a space-efficient alternative to conventional elevators at potentially lower costs. For wheelchair transportation, a wheelchair lift provides a compact solution, traveling along a guide rail over stairs and conveniently folding away when not in use.

Glass Elevators

These elevators serve as more than just functional components; they are designed to enhance aesthetics and offer an elevated experience. Perfect for showcasing breathtaking views in high-rise buildings, they not only complement interior designs but also provide passengers with scenic vistas of the surrounding landscape.

Dumb Waiter

Dumbwaiters feature a remarkably compact design, making them an ideal solution for seamlessly transporting small objects between floors. Their efficient layout ensures convenience and practicality, catering to individuals seeking an efficient method for vertical transportation within their space.

Commercial

The residential elevators mentioned previously are available for commercial use, along with the following elevator options

Freight Elevator

Large freight elevators are a staple in industrial environments, boasting expansive interiors tailored for transporting diverse cargo such as supplies, industrial materials, and equipment. These dependable elevators serve as indispensable assets, enabling seamless logistics and operations within warehouses, factories, and other industrial settings. By efficiently moving goods, they contribute to the smooth functioning of industrial facilities, ensuring optimal productivity and workflow management.

LU/LA

A limited use, limited application (LU/LA) elevator is tailored for facilities with lower traffic flow or infrequent use, offering a specialized solution for accessibility needs. Serving as a hybrid between a commercial elevator and a wheelchair lift, LU/LA elevators provide efficient and safe vertical transportation, making them ideal for various settings such as small businesses, schools, and low-rise buildings.

Bus Lift

The mobile design of a wheelchair lift offers a versatile solution for transporting individuals with mobility challenges. This innovative lift is specifically designed to be easily transported and installed on various types of vehicles, such as buses, vans, and other modes of transportation. With its mobility, the wheelchair lift provides accessibility for individuals with disabilities, allowing them to board and disembark from vehicles with ease and safety. Its compact and adaptable design ensures efficient use of space while accommodating different wheelchair sizes and configurations. The lift's user-friendly operation and robust construction make it a reliable choice for enhancing accessibility in public transportation and ensuring inclusivity for all passengers.

Elevator Designs

At our company, we offer comprehensive services dedicated to installing, modernizing, and maintaining commercial elevators and their controller systems, with a focus on nonproprietary equipment. In elevator design, two main types are commonly utilized: hydraulic or traction, each with variations tailored to specific needs and preferences.

Hydraulic Elevators

These elevators are supported by a piston(s) at the bottom or top of the elevator that pushes the elevator up as an electric motor forces hydraulic fluid into the piston.

Holeless Hydraulic Elevators

These elevators may or may not have a machine room, depending on the application or requirements, and are able to reach heights up to approximately 32 feet.

Hydraulic Elevators with In-ground Jack

These elevators have machine rooms and are able to reach heights of approximately 60 feet of travel.

Hydraulic Elevators without a Machine Room (MRL Hydro)

These elevators do not require a machine room but have the controller either in the jam or the wall and pump equipment located in the pit.

Hydraulic Elevator

Traction Elevators

Traction Elevator

Geared and Gearless Traction Elevators with Machine Room

Traction elevators are lifted by ropes passing over a drive sheave using an electric motor above or beside the elevator shaft. These are best used in mid and high-rise applications; their travel speeds are significantly higher than hydraulic elevators and they have very little height restriction.

Machine Room-Less (MRL) Elevators

These are traction elevators that are not designed with a machine room. The controller is located in the wall and hoist equipment in the overhead.
